The Personal Licence course, which is better known as the APLH or the Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders Qualification (APLH), is one of the prerequisites to attain a Personal Licence. It is designed to ensure that anyone involved in the sale or supply of alcohol in the hospitality and bar industry is aware of their responsibilities under the 2003 Licensing Act and equips them with the ability to understand and implement the requirements of the Act.
The Personal Licence Training Course leads to the Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders. This ensures that hospitality workers, bar staff and event managers have attained the necessary skills and qualifications to operate legally, whilst also maintaining a safe environment for their customers, employees and co-workers at all licensed premises in England and Wales.

The APLH course will provide you with the relevant training and accreditation required to make a Personal Licence Application to your local licensing authority. On completion of the training course, you will be awarded the Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders which is accredited by either the BIIAB (The British Institute of Innkeepers Awarding Body) or HABC (Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance).

The Personal Licence Training Course runs over 1-day and is divided into the following units:

  • Police powers and rights of entry
  • Legal and social responsibilities of the personal licence holder

At the end of your training, a 40-question multiple-choice exam will be conducted. The questions on this exam are covered on your course.

A few points to note:
Under the 2003 act, anyone involved in the sale or supply of alcohol must retail the alcohol in a safe and responsible manner and conduct the sales while promoting the 4 licensing objectives contained within the act (5 licensing objectives in Scotland). The licensing objectives are: 

  • The protection of children
  • The prevention of crime and disorder
  • Public safety 
  • Prevention of public nuisance.

The sale of alcohol without the approved authorisation carries a maximum penalty on conviction of a fine of £20,000 and/or 6 months of imprisonment.

Overview
The Fire Marshal course provides an all-round knowledge of the activities to be performed in the event of a fire. It covers the role of a designated Fire Marshal or a Fire Warden who is trained to have practical hands-on experience of tackling a controlled fire with a fire extinguisher. This course provides delegates with a clear understanding of the responsibilities of a fire marshal or those designated to oversee fire safety. It will also be helpful in learning about the different types of fire extinguishers and how to use them correctly. This course aims to understand the chemistry of an accidental fire, ways to tackle a fire, duties and responsibilities of a fire marshal, common causes of fire and actions to be taken in case of a fire.

Assessment and Certification
There will be a Multiple-Choice Questions to test if the candidate understands the primary responsibilities of being a Fire Marshal along with an ongoing trainer assessment who will monitor each candidate on sight to determine his capabilities as a prospective Fire Warden. On completion of the course, the candidate will be awarded a certificate which will be valid for three years.  

Duration
The course duration is half a day or approximately 6 hours depending upon the availability of trainers. 
Any professional who has been a firefighter before or has been delegated the duties of overseeing fire safety can take the course. 

Eligibility Requirements

  • A candidate must be 21 years and above to attend the course.  
  • An applicant must have been declared medically fit according to the Group 2 DVLA medical standards which can be attained by a General Physician or other medical professionals with full access to their medical records. A fire marshal must be quick on his feet and must be able to demonstrate the ability to remain calm during a fire emergency.  
  • He must also clear a psych evaluation to prove he is of sound mind and has the ability to remain calm in case of a fire emergency that involves civilians.

The course is equipped with modules detailing food safety hazards, food preparation, personal hygiene, chemical and allergenic hazards, food storage, microbiological hazards and details about registering the food business, contacting local authorities and obtaining legal documents and FSA publications. It will also consist of a full audio voiceover, along with video contents that will help a learner achieve a fast-paced understanding of the subject. There will also be 24-hour learning support to assist students in case of any further help.
Working in the hospitality or service industry means complying with the latest Food and Hygiene regulations. The EU Regulation 852/2004 concurs food businesses to ensure that employees who specifically deal with food get educated about food hygiene practices. Keeping this in mind, this course is designed to deliver food safety training without the hassles of leaving the office or attend classroom sessions that disrupt the work environment. A business owner or a supervisor must comply with the provisions of the Food Safety Act of 1990, Regulation (EC) 852/2004 of the European Parliament on the Hygiene of Foodstuffs, and the Food Hygiene Regulations 2005. Hence, food businesses need to train their employees in the right food monitoring procedures, in order to meet the UK requirements of meeting standards. This course has a user-friendly interface to help candidates understand industry practices along with the applicable provisions dealing with food safety. The content of the course includes foodborne illnesses, microbiology, understanding the provisions of the Food Law, HACCP, cleanliness, disinfection and pest control.
The course is suitable for supervisors or small business owners working in the food industry and any other food handler who has successfully completed Level 2 Food Safety and also opt like to get certified at a higher level as per the requirements of the management. It is a full voice-over audio online course of approximately 2-3 hours duration, the length of the course depends entirely on the student’s capability of absorbing the course content. There is no set completion time for this course. Learners can continue the Course at any time and may pause, leave and come back to the system to continue the training at any time. The training materials are independently audited and verified to give a correct understanding of the subject to the learner. Upon completion of the course, a certificate will be available to download. 

The Level 2 HACCP course is suitable to any worker who works in the food industry including food handlers and supervisors across any industry (catering, manufacturing or retail) as well as anyone who works in the food industry but does not necessarily handle food. Aims of the course
After the completion of the course, learners will be able to:

The Door Supervisor Training Course is essential in obtaining your SIA Door Supervisor Licence. The training is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications providing the necessary skills and knowledge for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a Door Supervisor. 
The SIA Door Supervisor Licence equips you to work at licensed premises, bars, clubs, pubs, restaurants, warehouses, retail outlets, shops, shopping centres, office buildings and in a wide variety of roles including static guarding, manned guarding, key holding etc.

Course Assessment 

On the final day of the course, there will be three multiple-choice exams and a practical assessment.
The SIA door supervisor training course is Six days of intensive training. The course starts at 09:30 am and finishes at 06:00 or 06:30 pm on all Six days.

The SIA Door Supervisor course is held over 6 days and is divided into 4 units:

Unit 1: Introduction to Physical Skills

  • Knowing the characteristics of the private security industry
  • Understanding emergencies and the importance of emergency procedures
  • Understanding fire procedures in the workplace

 

Unit 2: Role of the Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry

  • Understanding civil and criminal law relevant to a door supervisor
  • Understanding incident recording and crime scene preservation relevant to the role of a door supervisor
  • Understanding emergency procedures which should be followed by a door supervisor.

 

Unit 3: Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry

  • Understanding the principles of conflict management appropriate to their role and reduce risk in conflict situations
  • Understanding the good practises to follow after conflict situations
  • Understanding how to communicate in emotive situations to de-escalate the conflict.

 

Unit 4: Physical Intervention Skills Module (15 hours of which 12 hours must be contact time), this module was incorporated in the door supervisor qualification in 2010 and the trainer will teach the learners compliant techniques.

  • Module 1: Working in the Private Security Industry (WPSI)
  • Module 2: Working as Door Supervisor (WDS)
  • Module 3:  Conflict Management in Security Industry (CMPSI)
  • Module 4: Physical Intervention Training (PI)

Along with SIA documentation requirements, certified centers may accept the following identification forms: 
1.    2 identity documents from Group A list. At least one must show the candidate’s current address and at least one document must show their date of birth.
OR
2.    One identity document from the Group A list and 2 documents from the group B list. At least 1 document must show the candidate’s current address and at least 1 document showing their date of birth.

The required identification documents are classified into two groups 

Group A 

1.    UK biometric residence permit.
2.    Signed valid passport of any nationality 
3.    Valid UK driving license (both parts of provisional or full license are required)
4.    Driving license photo card, GB issued. Not valid if issued by Northern Ireland.
5.    UK original birth certificate issued within 12 months of birth 

Group B 

1.    Marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate, with translation if not in English.
2.    Valid UK firearms license with photo 
3.    Valid EU photo ID card
4.    UK adoption certificate
5.    Signed valid UK paper driving license
6.    UK birth certificate issued more than 12 months after the date of birth, not a photocopy
7.    Non-UK birth certificate, with translation if not in English
8.    P45 statement of income for tax purposes on leaving a job issued in the last 12 months
9.    Bank or building society statement issued to your current address, less than three months old. You can use more than one statement as long as each is issued by a different bank or building society
